Nancy Sulahian, Director

Nancy Sulahian, Caltech’s Director of Choral Activities and Music Director of The Glee Club and Chamber Singers, is currently singing her 27th season with the Los Angeles Master Chorale and Los Angeles Philharmonic Orchestra. An active concert soloist and classical recording artist, her voice is also heard on 80 movie soundtracks. Ms. Sulahian is music director at the First United Methodist Church of Glendale and conductor of Disneyland’s annual Christmas Candlelight Procession and Ceremony. Her music degrees are from the University of Southern California.

William Schmidt, Accompanist

William Schmidt, accompanist, has played with choirs throughout the Los Angeles area for the past 29 years and has performed concert tours in the United States, Canada and Great Britain. Mr. Schmidt accompanies all concerts at Flintridge Preparatory School in La Cañada, teaches at the Academy of Jewish Religion, and is organist for the Los Angeles Children’s Chorus and at Oneonta Congregational Church in South Pasadena. His music degrees are from the University of Nebraska, Lincoln, with postgraduate studies at the University of Southern California.

The Caltech Glee Club

The Caltech Glee Club is comprised of Caltech students, postdocs, alumni, faculty, staff and other members of the Caltech community. The group performs in a wide variety of musical styles and languages, from Medieval chant to the latest 21st century compositions. The choir presents two full concerts a year and also sings at other events on campus. In 1922 the Caltech Glee Club and two other schools founded the Pacific Southwest Intercollegiate Choral Association festival, an annual event in which the Glee Club still participates as one of the association’s 14 member universities.


The Caltech Chamber Singers

The Caltech Chamber Singers is a group selected by audition from the ranks of the Caltech Glee Club. Comprised primarily of students, Chamber Singers repertoire features music composed for smaller choral forces. Standard literature for this group includes madrigals, chansons, motets and part songs from all style periods. In addition to performing full concerts, Chamber Singers presents the featured program at the Athenaeum’s annual Holiday Galas, and provides music for other campus events.
