Welcome to Caltech Performing & Visual Arts!

Caltech offers excellent opportunities for the study and performance of music, theater, and the visual arts.

The Performing and Visual Arts faculty are committed to quality in performance and education, and share a dedication to serve students who wish to enrich and broaden their college experiences.

Students can receive academic credit for their participation.

Performing and Visual Arts plays a vital role in realizing the Institute's mission of "...educating outstanding students to become creative members of society."

Auditions for Caltech's Performing and Visual Arts groups are coming up September 27–29! Sign up now to reserve your spot.

If you're auditioning for both chamber music and orchestra, you may do so in the same time slot.

Auditions are friendly and low stress. If you have a very short (2-3 minute) prepared piece that represents the level of your playing, bring it, but don't hesitate to audition if you do not have anything prepared. There may also be some sight reading.

If you haven’t played your instrument in some time, please come and audition anyway. If you need to borrow an instrument, please contact Cindy De Mesa.

Participating in a music group takes a maximum of three hours per week.

All music auditions will be held at the Caltech Music House (305 S. Hill Ave.).

Caltech Glee Club and Caltech Chamber Singers

Caltech Glee Club, the institute’s large choral ensemble, welcomes singers of all levels who commit to the rehearsal schedule: Mondays 7-8:30pm and Wednesdays 5-6:30pm.  Auditions will be held in Frautschi Rehearsal Hall (Hameetman Center, Second Floor). The purpose of the low-stress audition is for the director to meet you and hear your voice for placement in the choir. Bring a piece to sing or we can find something for you.

Caltech Chamber Singers is a select smaller ensemble from the Glee Club membership. Repertoire is advanced and rehearsal time is limited, so the ensemble is for singers wanting an extra challenge. Everyone auditioning for Chamber Singers will be asked to demonstrate music reading ability. Chamber Singers rehearses an extra 75 minutes beyond the Monday Glee Club rehearsal (until 10pm).
  • Friday, September 27, 5:00 to 6:00 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.
  • Saturday, September 28, 1:30 to 3:00 p.m.
