E-Plegona Experiential Art Exhibition at Red Door
Caltech community members are invited to explore the intersection of art and science through a temporary, interactive art exhibition at the Hameetman Center's Red Door Café from October 25 through October 31. The exhibition, known as e-plegona, allows two players to create music together in three minutes, fostering an emotional connection through non-verbal communication. This experience is brought to you by Caltech Theater Arts in association with Earth Data: The Musical.
e-plegona is the result of a collaboration between Yamaha, Yamaha Motor, and scientists, including Caltech's Shinsuke Shimojo, the Gertrude Baltimore Professor of Experimental Psychology, and lab manager Daw-An Wu. Together, their group aimed to create an experience that simulates Kando, a Japanese word describing the feeling of deep satisfaction and excitement that comes from encountering something of great value.
e-plegona and Earth Data/The Musical are part of a collaboration with The Blended Worlds exhibition, enabled by a Getty Foundation grant initiative called PST ART: Art & Science Collide, involving more than 70 exhibitions from museums and institutions across Southern California exploring the intersection of art and science.
Earth Data: The Musical and Blended Worlds are part of three separate projects being led by Caltech, which manages JPL for NASA, as part of the Getty's landmark arts event.
E-plegona will be on display from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday, between October 25 and October 31. The exhibition is free.
