Instrumental Music Audition 2025-26

Chamber Music | Jazz Band | Orchestra | Wind Orchestra

Welcome to Caltech Performing and Visual Arts! Auditions are friendly, low stress, and designed to assist you toward selecting your best ensemble option.  Don't hesitate to sign up for a meet and greet time if you do not have anything prepared, or don't yet have an instrument.  If you haven't played your instrument in some time, please come and meet us anyway.  We will be happy to discuss your options at Caltech and assist you in any way that we can.

Please prepare two short, contrasting selections that represent your level of playing.  It is fine to audition even if you do not have anything prepared.  Caltech ensembles are designed to support you and your academic schedules.  Participation usually involves just one meeting per week, and provides an enjoyable change of pace in a positive musical and social setting.

To audition, please complete the following:

1. Complete the Instrumental Music Audition Form.

2. Please add your name to the time slot that works best for your audition.

All music auditions will be held at the Frautschi Rehearsal Hall (Hameetman Center, 2nd Floor, Room #206) except for Piano Auditions. Piano auditions will be held at the Music House (305 S. Hill Ave).

The Caltech Jazz Band is audition only.  There is a separate Jazz Improv class that is open to everyone, at every level of experience (or no experience!) in jazz. Anyone who would like to learn about improvisation, jazz theory, composition & arranging is encouraged to enroll.
